27th February 2020 at 23:30 a Dassault Falcon 50 private jet caught fire outside of hangar #5 at Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport (YKZ/CYKZ).

The Falcon 50 has registration N951DJ. It was built in 1980 and is currently 40 years old.

The airframe has accumulated 13,350 hours and 10,050 landings. The last C check was done in October 2016 and is valid through 2022. A landing gear overhaul was done in September 2015 and had a validity of 12 years.

The aircraft has 3 Honeywell TFE 731-3D-1C engines. Its current seat configuration fits 9 passengers.

The aircraft was operated by Elite Air Inc until a year ago.

According to CBC News, investigators found a hole cut into a nearby chain-link fence, fresh tracks in the snow and an empty jerrycan at the base of the jet’s stairs.

The fire was extinguished by Markham Fire and there were no injuries.

Investigators believe that the fire was intentionally set.

Investigators with the #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking witnesses following the suspicious airplane fire.
